Goat in the Bath

When we think about soap we think about whiteness and cleanliness, the wonderful smell of an indulging bath, tranquillity, and tenderness.
When we think about a goat pen we think of droppings and noise, udders and milk, boots and plants
Who would think that the two would ever meet?

Ido and Tali live in Ein Iron. One day in 2007, Ido, a chemical engineer by trade, decides to set up a household wastewater treatment system – one that collects the water from the shower, passes it through a “chain” of pools and purifies it. One day, while Ido and Tali looked at the fish pond that was the last “link” in the chain of pools, they were amazed to discover that all the fish had died. The day after this worrying event, they noticed that the vegetation in the pool had wilted and dried up. A household investigation revealed the concerning, but surprising finding: their children had had a shower together and emptied out an entire bottle of dandruff shampoo, which made its way through the system to the fish pond.

The realisation that the raw materials in the shampoo had caused this household ecological disaster left them no rest.

‘We started to read about what goes into cosmetics’, Tali relates. ‘We realised that they often contain strong chemical substances. They may not cause death like in the case of the fish, but the substances that killed the fish and the vegetation so quickly –are probably also absorbed by ours and our children’s bodies, causing long-term harm. At once we decided to stop using “those” products and to begin searching for alternatives.

We began producing our own soaps and soon found ourselves giving homemade soaps to friends. The reactions about the disappearance of eczema and other skin problems amazed us and gave us confidence that we were onto something significant.’

Thus, “Lavender” was founded.

How was the connection made with Ramat Handiv?

‘For years we were in touch with Ramat Hanadiv as partners in our connection to and love of nature, and at one point we instructed the staff of Ramat Hanadiv on natural cosmetics and the process of natural cosmetic production. It was then that the idea arose to try to develop soap from goat milk.’

What’s so unique about this soap?

‘In contrast to the “soapless soap” found in pharmacies, real, natural soap contains no by-products of crude oil and is made primarily from oil and water. Likewise, the soap is made during a cold process that preserves the oils’ properties and vitamins. It takes over a month and a half to produce each soap.

‘To this unique soap we added goat milk, which contains lactic acid that maintains the natural acidity and moisture levels of the skin, gently removes dead skin cells and encourages skin regeneration. Using this soap gives the body a smooth, pleasant feel. We’ve had incredible feedback from people who found that using this soap significantly reduced the dryness of their skin.’

So yes, the connection between goats and baths is surprising and unusual; however, it turns out that it’s not just a surprising connection, but also healthy and indulging. So if you feel link pampering yourself with fragrant, natural, healthy soap – it’s waiting for you in our InfoShop. Come check it out!
